Author Playlists: Bandaid and Marooned on the Shores of Malaise

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

Jack Benedict and Rami Obeid Share The Music That Inspired Their Chapbooks.

With the upcoming releases of our next two chapbooks, our authors shared with us their playlists. We at Whispering Wick have always thought of music as an essential part of the writing process for us and so many other writers out there. Whether you listen to music for inspiration, to set the mood for writing a particular scene, or just to have something keeping you company in the background as you type, music can help shape your work immensely.

The first of our upcoming releases, Marooned on the Shores of Malaise by Rami Obeid, is a poetry chapbook with raw and honest poems that discuss Rami's experiences with low-income neighbourhoods and mental illness. His poems also focus on his dreams, a stark contrast to his reality. Rami's mastery of words create poems that, though short, are so vivid and real you feel like you could reach out and touch them.

Our next release is Bandaid by Jack Benedict. Bandaid is about the head of a daycare who has just been impaled. What follows is a journey about understanding past traumas and working towards healing by letting in people who care. Jack's experimental style of storytelling shines in this chapbook and the explorations of care and healing they take the reader on throughout the story is powerful and moving.

We hope you enjoy these playlists! Maybe some of these are old favourites, while others might just end up being new gems. If you're interested in ordering one of our chapbooks, including these two upcoming titles, head on over to our bookstore.
